Phony edible iPhone-cover

Jummy, this chocolatecake looks so good. Hmm but wait a minute, why did you put the cake on top of your brand new iPhone? Well I'm sure you'll be declared nuts, crazy or cuckoo first, if you take your iPhone out of your bag. But then you'll reveal that this jummy cake is your new.....iPhone-cover, shaped like a realistic piece of food.

Yup, it looks so real and jummy, yet this cover really isn't edible. Even though it's funny to fool others with this innocent item, I can imagine it can also be sort of 'dangerous' for some people. What if you're extremely hungry and you're phone suddenly goes off. The first thing you see is this deliciously looking fooditem...what would you do? What would I do? Probably eating it, fooling myself that it is actually edible ;)

Cosmetic guns: the Seven Necessities

OK, I don't want to encourage our readers to buy and use guns, but I really need to share this with you. And nope it's not an ordinary gun, it's a cosmetic gun, designed by Ted Noten. Ted has made a series of handgun-shaped compacts: the Seven Necessities.

What's so special about it? Well, instead of real bullets, the loading chamber is filled with pills, there's a lip gloss in the muzzle, a toothpick and in some models you can find a hairpin and a small vial of perfume. The gun also hides a 4GB thumb drive for snapshots and personal data.

The guns are pretty expensive, from 8.000 euros to 11.977 euros, depending on the features of the gun.

Freeze! Or I'll shoot some pills in your mouth!

International Korean Fashion Art Festival 2011, The Hague

This year is the 50th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between the Korean republic and the Netherlands. For this occasion there has been organized a special fashion exhibition in the Cityhall of The Hague. Today was the official opening of the exhibition and we went there. There was a beautiful fashion show with traditional Korean clothing (scroll down the see some images) and we could check out modern fashion of a couple of fashion designers.

Modern Fashion design

One of the clothingdesigns caught my attention. It was a wearable body sculpture, knitted and woven together by using small strokes of catalogues and magazines. "The use of magazine pages symbolizes the idea of how media contains our self perception through fashion".Very interesting to see this piece of art.

Other fashion designs, of mainly Korean designers, can be seen till July 2nd at the main Cityhall of The Hague (the Netherlands). If you're nearby, you really should check it out.

I accidentally came across this new trailer of an upcoming documentary about the underground music in Tokyo.

The underground music scene in Tokyo is huge. Live houses are packed with lineups of up to six bands a night. It's a great way to explore the Japanese musicscene and to discover new ear-candy.

This trailer looks interesting. I'm curious when this doc will be released. And where??

*Update*
More details are known and this docu will be screened at Camera Japan festival in The Netherlands this fall. Yay! JUMI will check it out!

There's gonna be a Hello Kitty theme park in China, close to Shanghai.
They will start building this Summer and the park will be opened in 2014. This will be the third Hello Kitty park after the Japanese Puroland and Harmonyland. But it will be the first HK park outside Japan.

Well, someday in the future I want to visit China. So when I am there, this will be topping my to-do list for sure!! Yay! (^^)

Recently a video editor Yung Lee went to an Anime convention in Toronto. And just like other anime conventions, there were many visitors dressed up in Cosplay*. And well, this visit didn't went smoothly, because he got into a fight with some Cosplayers. And it was all caught on camera :)

Check out the video here at JUMI.

Sakura moment by Lucia & Epitone Project

Even though I don't understand more then ten words Korean, I was touched by the song of Lucia & Epitone Project: Sakura moment. I think the animated videoclip explains what the song is about. The animation is beautiful and it really fits the sweetness and at the same time the calm sadness of the song. Watch the videoclip here, at JUMI.

From Paris to Tokyo in 2.5 hours...by rocketplane

It sounds surreal, traveling from Europe to Japan in 2.5 hours....by rocketplane. Well, according to the European aircraft organization EADS, it actually can happen within 40 years!

Last Saturday EADS introduced the newest invention of a supersonic aircraft, the so-called Zehst. The aircraft will take off with normal engines. Once it's flying high enough in the air, superrocket-engines will take over the normal ones. And with flying high, I mean really high. A normal aircraft flies up to 10 km. With Zehst it can reach 32 km. And it's superfast. With that, Zehst runs on biofuel, so it's environmental friendly.

Wow, imagine that you have a day off, and make a decision (last minute) to go to Akihabara for a shoppingafternoontrip. How cool is that!

The Babys

It's been a while since I have listened to The Babys! I'm really glad to listen to their songs again. Btw, I am talking about the Japanese band, not the British one :). These guy and girls are perfect to swish away the depressive rainy days we're now having here in Holland. Sadly the band isn't around anymore but left us some awesome tunes like Shonen Knife (少年ナイフ)!!

Super Mario gameplay on your Converse All Stars

It seems like Converse is still in the Nintendo/Super Mario mood, because they introduced two new All Star Chuck Taylors, starring the videogame of our little friend Mario again. The sneakers will be available in two colors, in black and blue and are releasing August 2011.

Hmm, I don't like these two All Stars, I prefer the other ones, where Mario is spread all over the sneaker. Those sneakers will be released next month. Which one do you think looks better?

What a crappy burger

Last time we've posted about the toilet themed restaurant, where you can enjoy a chocolateturd as dessert while sitting on the toilet. Now there's this professor Mitsyuki Ikeda who goes a little further with the idea of turd eating.

He and his researchers are trying to invent a burger made from real human turd. Say what? Yup, real turd! The professor says that sewage mud contains a great deal of protein. So he uses the extract from this protein to recycle it into a substitute for meat.

Is this professor nuts? Eating turd for real? Uhm, well according to this man the turdburgers taste like beef, because it's mixed with soyproteins. The bacterias in it are harmless. And another good thing about it is that it actually contains less fat, so less calories. So, the turdburger might be ideal for people who are on a diet, vegetarians or people who are angry at the massmeatindustry, yet secretly longing to taste 'beef' again..?

When it comes to J-rock music, I only like a very few bands. Because a lot of J-rock bands do sound the same and have the same look and things. Well, one of the bands I like is the band D'espairsRay.
They were only one time in Holland for a gig somewhere in 2006 but unfortunately I couldn't attend it.

So this wednesday, the band suddenly announces their immediate break-up. Weeeh now I will never have the chance to hear their music live. Gah. Well, I'm happy to have their first two cd's in my collection. If you are into J-rock music, go get these great cd's (Coll:set & Mirror).
So thanks guys of D'espairsRay for your music and good luck with whatever you will do in the future.

Oh I really want to add 1 extra song of them in this post: Listen here :)

Cute stop motion film: Zero

Two months ago, the Stop Motion film Zero won the Bronze Award at the Shorts Film Festival in Adelaide. I just watched Zero and I liked it.

The story is about a world where people (uhm..woolen people) are born into a numerical class system. It seems like everybody has a number, except for the main character: Zero. Faced with constant prejudice and persecution an oppressed Zero walks a lonely path until a chance encounter changes his life forever: he meets a female zero. Together they prove that through determination, courage, and love, nothing can be truly something.

It's really worth it to watch the 12:32 minutes short stop motion film. Watch it here at JUMI!

Hostboysmovie Club Zeus

We just saw the movie Club Zeus, starring Zheng Qi and Ray Zhao, by the Dutch director David Verbeek. A nice movie if you want to get know more about the life of hostboys. Hostboys are 'pretty boys' who are working in clubs to entertain, give attention and 'love' to women. The story is about two hostboys in Shanghai. Leonardo is a shy hostboy who looks up to his friend, another hostboy, Sly, because he's one of the best in town. The movie shows how they work in this industry. Even though they're surrounded by many women every day, hosting makes them lonely. They can't expect to get real love from women.....

Club Zeus is a low budget movie. And you can see that, crappy make-up haha. Yet, the filming was done very well, with beautiful images of Shanghai. A big plus is the fact that it was filmed in ten days! How the...what the...?? Well done, we're proud of our Dutch director!

JU's crib getting a make-over

Just a short update of JUMI! A supertornado went into JU's home and destroyed everything. It's a total mess and the whole place needs a big make-over! Today we were painting the walls. We'll continue this huge operation tomorrow!

This is how it looks like now. Sorry for it's blurriness, I almost tripped over while shooting this pic..

Can you see all the damage the tornado has done? ^^
The walls were grayish pink & yellow before but now they are starting to get all shiny and superwhite!

Study Manga at the university in Kyoto

Mangafans, listen to this! Next year it's possible to get a Manga Doctorate at the Seika University in Kyoto. The university is well known for its manga and anime programs and last year they established a master's degree course in manga.

It will be pretty exclusive, because from next year the university only allows four candidates for the program, every year. Click here to check out the university's website for more information.

Skip Beat movie is coming

Not sure if I was gonna post this or not. So I've read that a live action movie of the manga & anime Skip Beat is coming. I liked the anime version! It's about Kyoko who got dumped by her stupid boyfriend who is a popular star. Kyoko then promises to herself to get revenge on her ex, to be a bigger star then he is.
But after seeing the trailer of the movie, I'm disappointed. It doesn't look that good.. :(
What do you think?

Aww it's been a while since I've seen this anime, the theme song of the series is cute.

Movie Come rain come shine

I really had high expectations of the Korean doramamovie Come Rain Come Shine, starring Hyun Bin (Secret Garden and Late autumn), directed by Lee Yoon-ki. The movie was also selected in the main competition for the Berlin International Film Festival. But after seeing the movie, it gave me 'a so-so' feeling. The story is about a couple who are married for five years. Like many other couples, they also get into a relational routinecrisis. They don't have much to say to each other anymore. Hyun Bin plays a very considerate quite man, who seems to agree with everything. Im Soo Yung plays the role of a woman who decides to leave him for another man. She packs her bags to leave, but 'unfortunately' the weather isn't cooperative. It's raining too much that she can't leave.

The camera follows the couple and shows the emotions of the characters very beautifully, quiet, subtle and real, without any exaggeration (like typical Hollywood movies). There were moments that I had to blink away a tear. Hyun Bin and Im Soo-yeong played the role very realistic, very well!
Because it's not a typical dorama/romantic movie, it can be quiet hard to finish the movie. I wouldn't recommend you to see Come Rain Come Shine, when you're already tired or when you have expectations to see a lot of action, screaming and other Hollywoodstuff, because you'll definitely get bored soon or just fall asleep. To be honest, I watched the movie in parts (two days). If you're used to arthouse-ish movies, then you should watch it here, at Dramacrazy.net

Review - Karl Lagerfeld for Coca Cola light

I have promised a review of the Coca Cola light bottles by Karl Lagerfeld!
So here it goes. The bottles were nicely displayed in the shop. They looked all slick cute and very girly. I liked this bottle the most: Irene, the rock chick!

When I tasted the coke, I was kind of disappointed. Because of the design, I expected some exotic, alcoholic and sweet drink inside of the bottle! But it was just... Coca Cola light! And it slapped me back to reality which made my fantasizing to be rockin like Irene too short.

So after a few minutes I zipped down my coke. But I can't keep the bottle anymore because it's open now, and without the pink top the bottle just looks like a plain open bottle... :S

Jummy! The King's dessert!

OK, another thing I really really need to buy, try and eat when I go to Seoul one day (besides the popcorn) is the King's dessert. In two minutes a streetvendor easily makes 16.000 strings of jummy honey. The vendor of this video even speaks a bit German. I think the few streetvendors we have in our little country, can really learn from  this customerfriendly funny happyfaced vendor....

Another way to make popcorn

Unfold the brown bag. Put it in the microwave. Wait for three minutes. Hear it popping. And it's ready to serve: popcorn. I can imagine that it is exciting and fun to look into the microwave, waiting and listening impatiently for all the corn to be popped....well, if you're four years old I can imagine the excitement.

But grownups, and people older than four years old, listen to this! It still can be excititing to see corn popping in front of you! I found this video, about a street vendor in South Korea who pops his corn by using some sort of cannon. How cool is that! Watch the video, here at JUMI!

Outrage by Takeshi Kitano

Finally I finished watching Takeshi Kitano's new movie Outrage. And I loved it! Outrage is about the battle of power between Yakuzaclans. The big boss of a huge organized crime syndicate, Sekiuchi, orders his lieutenant (Ikemoto) and his assistant, to bring the unassociated Murase family in line for their drug trafficking business. Instead of doing this task by himself, the lieutenant passes the task on his subordinate Otomo, who runs his own group. Ikemoto is suspecting that Sekiuchi has lost confidence in him and instructs Otomo to "shake up" Murase as to make it look like that have "a little quarrel". What ensues is series of violent events in between which everybody is trying to trick everyone behind his back for their own benefit.

Of course Takeshi Kitano plays the role of Otomo perfectly. A huge disappointment was to see the acting performance of the foreign embassy. It's like it was his first time acting in a movie...really fake, definitely a B-actor.

If you want to see this movie, I really recommend you to increase the volume of your speakers. It would be much better if you also have a dolby surround home theater set, 3D-digital TV or something like that. Why? Some scenes just need to be watched, and definitely listened, with maximum volume (dentist scene, finger-sacrificing scene, haha...no I'm not a freak).

You can watch the English subbed movie here.
