Camera Japan 2011: Gantz

We still have to wait a couple of weeks for the start of the sixth edition of Camera Japan. This event, held in Amsterdam and Rotterdam, allows you to experience Japanese culture through art, the newest films & documentaries, food, music and more. Even though the whole program hasn't been published yet, it has been confirmed that the live action movie Gantz will be shown, part one and two! Coool!

Gantz is about two boys who die in a train accident and become part of a "game" in which they and several other recently deceased people are forced to hunt down and kill aliens armed with a handful of futuristic weapons.  Kenichi Matsuyama (Nana, Death Note, DMC, Norwegian Wood) is one of the leading stars in both movies. You can see Gantz 1+2 on September 23th at Lantarenvenster in Rotterdam and on 30 September or October the 1st at Kriterion in Amsterdam.

Even though this is the only information we have about Camera Japan, we will definitely go to this event. Curious how we've experienced Camera Japan last year? Then you really should read our reviews:

Speakers for stylish women: High Heels

'Woman, what are your smelly shoes doing next to my laptop!' I think some guys would be really angry when they see your sweaty high heels next to their brand new computer. But what if your high heels really do have a functional reason to shine next to the computer?

Well, these classy high heels are actually real speakers. Just plug it in your computer and listen to your shoes. Unfortunately you can't wear them, because they are made of plastic and well, I don't think it feels and walks comfortable having your both feet stuck to each other with a cable. But ladies, they do look classy, don't they?

If you're not a high heel fan, you should check out the diamond speakers...

Dramatip: Protect the Boss

While I'm always waiting impatiently for a new translated episode of Myung Wol the Spy, I tried  another Korean dorama, and this one turns out to be sooo funny: Protect the Boss.

It's about No Eun Sul, who really has some girlpower and really isn't afraid to hit someone when it's 'needed'. She had some several crappy jobs, but now she wants to take life more seriously and finally she gets a real job. Now she becomes a secretary for a rich, spoiled childish brat, Ji Hun. This young man eventually has to take over his father's company. It's kinda difficult because he's not really interested in the company and he has ochlophobia - a fear of crowds. Anyway, Ji Hun is giving his secretary a hard time (and he shouldn't do that, considering her past) and this leads to funny situations.

Like a lot of other doramas I've seen, I know how this story ends. But is it worth to watch Protect the Boss then? Yes! It's just a funny, relaxing drama to see. And it's nice to see how the characters evolve during the series. And Jaejoong has a role (also known from Sunao Ni Narenakute). You can watch English translated episodes of Protect the Boss at Dramacrazy.net

Restaurant serves oversized giant Sushi

OK, next time I set foot on Japanese ground I will run straight ahead to this restaurant in Aichi prefecture. Here they serve huge sushi (if you make a reservation two days in advance). And with huge, I mean really really huge. The restaurant serves Futomaki of almost six kilograms, huge sushirolls of two (!) meters. Jummy! They also have supertiny cute sushi. Watch the video, here at JUMI.

Deliciously looking Vans

Are you a foodlover just like me? And do you love to wear Vans? Well, then you definitely will like this jummy collection of Vans. Yup, check out the Banana Split Slip-On Vans (above), with hot fudge sauce spilled down on the bottom of the shoe and fresh sparkling cherries on top of it. Mmmm. How about some sweet pink Vans with sprinkles all over it?

Guys may like the Cheeseburger Vans. A bun filled with a juicy piece of meat, pickles, tomatos and of course a lot of ketchup. Vans also thought about the healthfreaks and already introduced the Watermelon Slip-ons a few years ago. Hmmm, the pictures of these shoes only makes me hungry. I still prefer the Hello Kitty Vans....

USB shoedryer animals

It's been a week now, but my shoes are ruined by the rain! Yes, we in Holland had to suffer from rainy days lately. Luckily the weather is getting better now. But my shoes! Boehoehh. They were soaking wet outside, inside. For these situations it's sometimes good to know that there are (initially useless) gadgets to help us surviving the rainy disaster moments. For example the USB Shoedryer animal!

It's like a mini hairdryer, but now you don't have to hold the dryer. Just plug the USB (connected to the animal) in your computer and let the animal do the work: drying the inside of your shoes. Oh, how lovely!

nice shoes huh

Check out the Fanbrella too

A driving car on your fingernails?

Is is actually possible to let a KIA Picanto drive on you fingernail? No, I don't mean that a car drives over your hands/fingers or something. But that you can see a car driving in that small piece of fingernail...Yup, that's possible. The Korean automobile company introduced a video showing its newest Picanto car, on a fingernail! Just check out this animation.

Amigurumi celebs

Crocheting and knitting for old ladies and housewives? Well, not anymore. Nowadays I see much more people knitting so-called Amigurumi (Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and other cute stuff), And I just found some pretty cool pictures of celebrity Amigurumi: Tom Hanks' character in Cast Away, Astroboy, Pee-Wee Herman and even Michael Jackson. They are all handmade by Allison Hoffman. You should definitely check out her other Amigurumi at craftyiscool.com The Bob Ross version is really nice, haha.

Mariel Clayton reveals other side of Barbie

Do you really think that Barbie is the sweetest doll in the world, with an ideal boyfriend, living a perfect carefree life? Well, for the outside world she has it all. But in the meanwhile, when she gets home from work, she's so exhausted of playing 'miss perfect'. So her home is the only place where she can be herself...ahum...And Mariel Clayton, a photographer, caught real Barbie at home on camera.

Yup, that's her real life

Sure, drink all your sorrows away Barbie

OMG

I love the work of this photographer, she also made Barbie photos with other themes: photos inspired by paintings of for example Johannes Vermeer, Film Noir, Ken's true identity and much more. It's really worth, to check out Mariel Clayton's other work. Go to www.thephotographymarielclayton.com

Drama tip: Myung Wol The Spy - updated!

There's another dorama that keeps us off from the streets ;)
Myung Wol The Spy is a nice series about an elite North Korean spy, Han Myung Wol, infiltrating South Korea on a mission to disrupt the Hallyu Wave by kidnapping one of their top stars, Kang Woo.
But.. Myung Wol is slowly falling in love with the arrogant Kang Woo.
I find it an enjoyable k-drama! Watch it here.

Update * Update * Update * Update

Wow this dorama turns out to be a real life dorama!! According to the latest news, the leading actress Han Ye Seul couldn't hold it anymore and has left to the US, leaving staff and crew behind in Korea.  There are still some episodes left to be filmed. Apparently the actress wasn't happy with the director, so she wanted him to be replaced, which didn't happen. Hmmm.... They should write down this whole situation into a scenario and a new drama is born!! ^^

Check here the official statement of the production company. Well after this statement she changed her mind and promised to return to Korea this thursday. What an exciting cliffhanger... will she or will she not return to the set?........

Haute couture drink: GIRL by Necker

For a moment I felt as if I were on a luxury yacht, with a yachtcrewmember next to me, feeding me with fresh raspberries and sweet lychees, while another yachtcrewmember holds my two glasses, one filled with Vodka and the other one filled with cognac, while I'm enjoying the view of a beautiful tropical island....

Yup, just by drinking one sip of the designer drink GIRL, by Necker, I felt like a diva. This drink is a mixture of premium vodka, cognac, with an aroma of sweet fresh raspberries and lychees. It has a 25% vol. alcohol, so it can be combined with apple juice, ice tea or other stuff. The taste and smell also really matches the look of the bottle: a glittery pink bottle. A real haute couture drink for diva's!

Cool down with aircospray and necktie

We had bad weather lately, rain, wind and some rain again. I had to wear my scarf, even though it's summertime. But when I woke up this morning, someone finally smiled at me: the beautiful sun! Real   summer weather returned to my little country, including high temperatures. Unfortunately high temperatures also mean......perspiration. That means sitting in an overcrowded bus, forced to smell human odor, watching people passing by, with watery foreheads and dark circles under their armpits. Of course the solution is deodorant, but this doesn't cool you down.

Now there are some new inventions to refresh yourself (or the passenger in the bus sitting next to you):

It looks like a normal deodorant spray, but instead of 'perfume', real cold air of -40 degrees Celsius comes out of the can. Spray it on your shirt, to prevent those ugly circles under your armpits.

And necktie readers, you might like this invention:

Just pull down your tie and activate the fan, hidden at the top of the tie. So you'll look (well, uhm, if you like boring designs) and feel cool, all the time, without a watery forehead, even when it's 40 degrees.

Say hello fresh air!

Vincent Bocognani, mature illustrations with a touch of wackyness

Now you know who his real parents are...
What would it look like, if Indiana Jones found C-3PO's head instead of the Crystal Skull or Pikachu who catched his trainer. Or a Barbapapa eating clouds?

Illustrator Vincent Bocognani created some really cool pictures, with for example movie stars and game characters. The illustrations have a mature look, and are uhm kind of realistic in our fantasy, but with a touch of wackyness. Very nice!

Shoe vending machine at the club

Even though I'm a woman too, I sometimes don't understand those women, who are going to the club (to dance of course) and after a short time, start to nag about the fact that their feet hurt. Why? Because they dance too much? Nope, because they're wearing high heels, even though they know they can't wear them too long. Uh, right....

Now a club in Antwerp, Noxx, came up with something that might be interesting for clubbing women: the shoe vending machine! If your feet hurt so bad, just go to the vending machine and buy some ballerina's (flat shoes). It will only cost twelve euro. And then you can continue the party. Maybe, if it's a success, we might see these vending machines everywhere in the near future. For now, I suggest to  wear your sneakers or other flat shoes. Why torturing yourself with silly high heels of ten centimeters....

Moving Ice Robot by J.A.M.I.E.

I've seen a lot of cute robots: coffeerobot, begging robot, Robobear, Ice cream robot Yaskawa-kun.....  But I've never seen a robot made of ice, that also moves. And then I found this video. Ice sculptor J.A.M.I.E. created this cute robot. It's too bad, that the ice robot didn't live long, but he did live well for a moment, as a big star, when he 'danced' the night away. Check out this video of how he came to life.

Don't eat, but breathe chocolate

Chocoholics, I know it's sometimes difficult to resist the beauty and smell of chocolate, lying seductive, for example, on the shelf of your supermarket. So sometimes we get home with toooo much chocolate in our shoppingbag. And of course we all know, that a overdose of chocolate is not good for us.

Maybe this invention, will help us, chocoholics. A new way of choco rehab: Le Whif, breathable chocolate. It's an inhaler. Stick it between your lips, like a cigarette and inhale. Instead of disgusting tobacco, you'll inhale and taste tiny molecules of jummy chocolate. It's a bit healthier than eating a real chocolate and/or smoking a cigarette, because 'it won't go into your lungs. The particles will fall deliciously on your tongue.' 'You get all the taste of chocolate, but with none of the calories or guilt.'

Hmmm, is it really worth it? Can it really replace real chocolate? I don't know...while I'm writing this post, I'm thinking of the sound of a real chocolatebar that I break into pieces in my hands. Jummy...

Put a teabag in your showerhead

Unfortunately I don't have the luxury of having a bathtub at home, so if I want to relax I just take a extremely long hot shower, until my skin turns red as a tomato. Now Chinese designers came up with a new way to experience shower relaxation without using the shower for a very long time and without the risk of turning yourself into a tomato. It's the Medical Shower!

It looks and functions like a 'normal' showerhead, but when you open the showerhead, you can put special teabags in it, filled with medical herbs. This will facilitate a steam of infused water. So it also helps take care of the skin. Can't wait to have my own Medical Shower! Click here to check out other pictures of Medical Shower.

Sweet Trick 'n Treats

There is a new sweets shop 'Trick 'n Treats' in Utrecht (The Netherlands).
The store is so colorfull and with friendly staff. Let's try some fudge, a cupcake and macarons.
The fudge was supergood, I tasted raspberry with vanilla and chocolate with honey. Mmmm :)
A bit dissappointed with the macarons, they tasted a bit watery for us. Or maybe we are too spoiled with Cup a la Cake :))
But the pistache cupcake.... was soo yummy yummy!
Anyways, if you need a spot for sweets in Utrecht: www.trickntreats.nl

They are planning to open more shops in Holland. I really hope in The Hague too, can't wait to taste their other cupcakes.

Cute coffee making robot

Oh no, the alarm clock rings and it's time to wake up! This morning I really had some difficulties to wake up early. And I felt so tired as if I only slept for two hours. Coffee is a big remedy for me, but today it was already too late to brew my own coffee and I didn't want to go to the Starbucks again (too early for a Frappucchino).

On days like these, I really wish I had a coffee robot, such as this little cute friend. Check out the video of this cute coffee robot, here at JUMI.
