Androp brings music videos to another level

Experience and enjoy music on another level, by playing a game. Say what?!

I just found out about the Japanese Indieband Androp. To promote one of their songs, Bell, they've created an interactive videoclip. The song is about acting on instinct and bringing a message. Their videoclip is a game, linked with Twitter, because you can send a message and include the videoclip. This is how it works: In the game you're carrying the Twitter message and you have to bring it to a house. So you have to run to the house, but meanwhile you have to avoid obstacles. Each time you're hit by an obstacle, your part of the message will disappear or change. And that's the message of the creators of the song Bell. Because of fast social mediatools such as e-mail and Twitter, things will disappear. Anyway, you just have to try it. Click here to go to Androp's Bell.

Because I'm in an Androp mood, I also want to share another videoclip with you: World.Words.Lights. The sweet voice of the singer matches the main character, cutie robot, in the videoclip. Yes, the voice of the singer...If I close my eyes, I imagine a cute cuddly soft little bear singing while playing an enourmous cool rocker-guitar. I'm already Andropped, so I recommend you to check out Androp's other videoclips. Now I really hope they will come to Europe soon. Androp's music = beautifully sweet!

Jeremy Scott's Flowerpower collection Fall 2012

You hate it or you love it: Jeremy Scott's creations for Adidas Originals. Last time we've posted about his Gorilladidas and the Pandadidas sneakers. And now he really seems to be in a Flowerpower mood. Recently the Fall 2012 collection has been introduced. The style of the sneakers are pretty much the same as the teddysneakers he introduced two years ago. But it looks like this one has a smoother surface, than the teddies. Besides the sneakers, he created a matching hoody. But what are those, sticking on the sleeves? (Hmm....it would look nicer if the bears were facing down with the other side of their body stitched to the sleeves. Then it really looks like as if they're holding onto the arms of wearer of the hoody....) So, what do you think of his Flowerpower collection?

JUMI on tour: IFFR 2012 Ace Attorney (review)

Yesterday we've been to Ace Attorney at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). They showed the movie at the Oude Luxor theater and it was packed! All the seats were taken, and I can understand why. Today was a special day. Before they started the movie, there was a Big Talk with the director Miike Takashi. Journalist Gawie Keyser interviewed the director (live, with audience!) about his film and his view on moviemaking.

And then Ace Attorney started.

(*SPOILER ALERT*)
Rookie Phoenix Wright has just became an attorney and started his first case. Then his mentor attorney, Mia Fey got killed. According to a witness, the only person who was in the same room, when Mia got killed, was her own sister, Maya. Maya might have killed her own sister? Phoenix Wright doesn't believe that she killed her and after some investigation, he proves that she is innocent and finds out that the witness did it! Phoenix Wright wins the case, so everybody's happy now, or not? Another problem occurred. His old friend, who's also an attorney (and also defended the witness/murderer of the case of Mia) has been suspected for murder. And there seems to be a link with the Mia case. Now Phoenix Wright wants to defend his old friend. It's a tough case. Will the rookie attorney solve this case and save his old friend?

Ace Attorney was funny and entertaining good for its genre. If you love courtmovies, then this is definitely a must-see. It was nice to recognize elements of the Nintendo DS game in this movie. Funny to see the same hairstyles of the game characters. I like the way how huge blue transparent touchscreens pops up during a case showing evidence, it just gives the movie that extra game-ish feeling. So the movie might be more enjoyable if you know the game/manga, yet good to follow for those who aren't familiar with it.

They day ended perfectly. After the movie, we immediately went outside and guess who we saw...Miike Takashi! Aaaaah! From now on our pink JUMI member will never wash her hair again :)

Chololi: Nose Hair alert

The day has come. You're meeting a friend you haven't seen for a while. And now, finally, he/she is sitting in front of you. And the first encounter is uhm.....What if you're dying to say that one thing, that might sound offensive. But it's bugging you the whole time, because, well, you're confronted by it, every time you're looking at that person. Finally the solution came: Chololi. Yup, this is an online message-service for people who are a bit afraid to tell a person, face to face, that......his or her nostril hairs are too visible or just toooo long! The service was only available in Japanese, but now also in English.

This is how it works:
  • Go to the website hanage.info/en
  • Here you can fill out a form with questions (for example on which side of the nose the noticeable hair are showing) and send it anonymously to the long-nostril-haired person
  • Now the person knows, that some action is required, before a whole nose beard grows out of the nose.

Next time you're meeting that person, he or she will have beautifully trimmed nostril hairs, thanks to the alerting service Chololi.

Jummyornot: Tiny Tokyo sushi - Kyoto set

    The real deal?

So in Holland there is a chain of takeaway sushi, called Tiny Tokyo. Years ago, when it was introduced in The Hague, I tried it. But the sushi was expensive and not good. The rice was kind of uncooked and they put too much mayonaisse and tuna salad (like the one you eat on a sandwich) in a sushi. These kind of sushi's are too Dutch in my opinion. If I want to eat sushi, I want the real deal or it's not sushi.

Today I passed by a Tiny Tokyo shop, thinking to give it a try again. Maybe they have improved their sushi over these years. I have bought the Kyoto set as the picture above this post. It was € 7,75. Pretty expensive I say!

At home the sushi was still cold, like near frozen cold. And I couldn't taste the fish or shrimp. They didn't have any taste. I waited a bit for the sushi to get on normal temperature, but still no taste. Though the rice was good. Then on with the maki sushi, one had tuna salad. I'm not a fan of tuna salad in a sushi. I have never seen this in Japan. To me it's tasting weird, but surprisingly it was the most tasty one of this set. The other two had surimi and cucumber, which were too soft.

Sorry, but again I have to give Tiny Tokyo a low score. It's way too expensive for the quality you're getting. The sushi is too much "Westernized". I like the whole set up of the brand Tiny Tokyo. The shop looks fun, they have all kind of fun sets. But unfortunately this is not sushi.

Hatsune Miku at opening ceremony Olympics?

Who do you wish to see at the opening the 212 Olympics London? Gaga? Bieber? Or maybe another type of idol singer. Type? Well...according to a recent online UK poll of "Singers you'd like to perform at the London 2012 Olympics", the majority of the voters didn't vote for superstars such as Gaga or Bieber, but the virtual singer Hatsune Miku.

Hmm, the changes to see her perform at the Olympics are really small, because the poll isn't official and Hatsune Miku is not really real. Even though she's extremely popular in Asia and also in the US, it would be too strange to let her perform at this big international event. But it would be so cool if the organization would choose for the virtual idol. It only makes this years Olympic opening much more unforgettable, right?

Bruce Lee documentary in theaters: I Am Bruce Lee

I've always watched his films on a small screen, on crappy quality videotapes. Now it's time to see him on a big, good quality screen. Bruce Lee will return to cinema next month! Or well, a documentary: I Am Bruce Lee. Director Pete McCormack made the documentary of this legend and it's about the influence Bruce Lee had in the world of Martial Arts, his films and his tragic death. Besides film footages, the documentary also shows some interviews of celebs such as Kobe Bryant and Black Eyed Peas, talking about Lee. Anyway, the documentary will be in theaters at February 9th. For now, enjoy the trailer.

Eat some brains at Capcom Bar in Tokyo

Next Wednesday, the 25th of January, will be the grand opening of Capcom Bar! And I've seen some jummy pictures of the food they serve: a real Resident Evil desert, called BRAIN CAKE! And also other game-themed food, such as Ace Attorney's rice/pasta and Monster Hunter appetizers.

Besides food you can also find (of course, of course) game demo kiosks and buy stuff. And Capcom will also use the location to host talk events with game creators.

So if you're in the neighbourhood next Wednesday, then run to the Capcom Bar, on the first floor of the Pasela Resort in Shinjuku, Tokyo.

"Zombies are targeting your brain. Equip the blade and fight!"

Mmmm, jummy brains with some bloody juice...

Movie ROBO-G: Grandpa in a robosuit

OK, I just saw a funny trailer of the new Japanese film: ROBO-G. The film is directed by Shinobu Yaguchi. It's about the new robot, ‘Robo-G’, which has been created by three employees of a small electronics maker in order to get the company more exposure. Unfortunately, they have bad luck, because the robot gets destroyed shortly before they wanted to show it to the public at a robo-expo. Now they came up with a pretty strange idea: put a real human inside the robot structure! Because the show must go on. And guess who has to be that person....a 73 year-old grandpa. From then on, ‘Robo-G’ becomes more popular than they ever dreamed. Things turn much more bizarre when a young female student falls in love with the robot. Haha, hilarious!

Anyway, the robot looks awesome. No high-tech, hypermodern technology or other futuristic stuff. It's just a nice old-fashioned robot, with some scratches.

The movie has been released a few days ago in Japan. Check out the trailer.

Queen of Swords by Daisuke Okamoto

Hmm, it looks like an ordinary drawing, with just some organic waves and squares. But wait until you see the process of creating it. I think I would go nuts, making such a piece, because I really don't have the patience to perfectionize each ultratiny millimeter of a blank piece of paper, drawing different little pieces and afterwards coloring it.

With this drawing and a lot of other work, Daisuke Okamoto represents the idea of the hybrid in both identity and transformation. Watch as Okamoto draws Queen of Swords. Beautiful!

Hello Kitty: cervical cancer prevention & awarenessproject Hellosmile

We all know (or well, I hope so) that Hello Kitty isn't just a brainless, childish, careless Kitty. Now she has been selected to be a supporting character for a new project: Hellosmile. This project is 'to promote awareness and prevention of cervical cancer, an illness that continues to increase among young women.'

Recently Hello Kitty's father Sanrio teamed up with Japan Airlines (JAL) and TOKYO FM Broadcasting to beautify one of JAL’s Boeing 777-300 aircraft with the Hellosmile logo. 'It will be the world’s first aircraft specially-decorated to raise awareness for cervical cancer, and it will begin flying domestic routes from today.'

The logo really fits the campaign: a profile view of a mature Hello Kitty expressing the concept of looking towards a bright future. Of course Hello Kitty was present when the plane got introduced to the public. And of course, classy Kitty, dressed herself up perfectly. She left her childish outfit at home. As you can see she wore a beautiful warm white dress, with a pearl necklace and a bright orange flower brooch to make the outfit not too boring. Check out her matching handbag (it's the same color as her bow!). Anyway, ladies, she left a very important message on the website http://www.tfm.co.jp/hellosmile/english/. Please read it and spread the word.

Maybe you've already heard the news: Taiwan airlines - EVA Air introduced three new Hello Kitty planes, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original Hello Kitty plane.

It's not just the exterior that turned into Kitty, but the boarding pass, headrest cover on board, tissues, paper cups, plates, packages of bottles, snacks, hand lotion, ice cream, everything has her face on it.

    Goldfish Salvation by Riusuke Fukahori

Hmm, is this a bowl of goldfish soup? Well, try and eat it. The only thing you'll taste is acrylic and resin. Yup, these are the main ingredients of the goldfish you see. It's 'cooked' by artist Riusuke Fukahori. He has a really special way of painting, which results into a three-dimensional piece of artwork. Guess who was his biggest inspiration. Fukahori's own pet goldfish (aaaah). Check out the demonstration, here at JUMI!

Miike Takashi's live action movie Ace Attorney

It's been a while since I've played Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney on my DS. And today I found out that a live action movie of this game has been released. I'm not a huge fan of movies based on games (Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Lara Croft, Mortal Kombat...ulggg...). But when I found out more about the live adaptation, it increased my interest a little bit. Guess who's the director of the movie: Takashi Miike! Yup, the guy from 13 Assassins, Ichi the Killer, Dead or Alive, Zebraman and a looot of other cool movies! And Narimiya Hiroki (Nobu from the Nana-movies!) has the leading role as Phoenix Wright (Ryuichi Naruhodo).

The story is about Ryuichi Naruhodo, a rookie defense attorney, who strives to protect his clients in various murder trials including the death of his mentor and the accusation of rival prosecutor, Reiji Mitsurugi. Ryƫichi's greatest ally is Mayoi, a spirit medium whose body is posessed by her older sister to communicate with him.

Anyway, the movie will be released on 11 February. But it will be screened before at the International Film Festival Rotterdam (festival held at 25 January - 5 February) in the Netherlands. Watch the trailer, here at JUMI!

    Hello Kitty Fashion Bracelet

I think we've found the cheapest Hello Kitty bracelet including cute colorful charms: it only costs 1 EURO! We've found them at the toystores Intertoys and Bart Smit in our little country.

The package includes the bracelet. I think there are two different kinds of bracelets, one with small round rings and another one oval shaped. Besides the bracelet, you'll get two different charms. You can still use the charms and hang it onto another bracelet if you don't like the one in the package. And some white/pink sour candy. Of course it's all plastic, so don't expect that these bracelets are unbreakable. But it's a lovely cheap present for yourself or your friend, don't you think?

How would it look like if the world suddenly gets pixelated? Director Patrick Jean made a short film about it. Watch it here, at JUMI!
