Totoro house in new park (Tokyo)

In Suginami Ward (Tokyo) there used to be a house that was well-known as the "Totoro house", among Ghiblifans. A long time ago Hayao Miyazaki saw this house and imagined the creature Totoro living in this house. Afterwards he wrote a book and introduced the house in it. He labeled the house as a "treasure". Totorofans have been visiting this house ever since. Unfortunately the house burnt down on february 2009.

The Suginami Ward office already had plans to transform the property (with the burnt Totoro house) into a park. And yesterday was the grand opening of a new park!

The ward office built it, with the help of Miyazaki, who sketched and designed the park. With more than 100 different plants and a restroom facility modeled to look like the Totoro house (of the movie), "it has to create an atmosphere that would make visitors feel Totoro would live there". Yep, I definitely have to put this on my travelwishlist!
