America's Greatest Otaku

You just turn on your TV, and again another talent show/challenge is on screen: America's next dance crew, America's next top model, America's next great restaurant, neeeext! Now it's time for America's Greatest Otaku! (Otaku= Japanese term used to refer to people with obsessive interests, particularly anime, manga, or video game)

This eight-episode documentary series is about the search for the number one American otaku. The founder of the series and his otaku apprentices, traveled across the country to find the one.

Eventually nineteen contenders will compete for the grand prize of a trip to otaku's heaven on earth, Tokyo. Contenders will be judged on six core qualities: pride, personality, passion, participation, expertise and imagination. In the season finale, four judges vote for the ultimate otaku. Besides that, fans can also vote for a 'Fan Favorite' winner on the website of America's Greatest Otaku. Now only one episode is left, so I think voting has ended.

You can check out the episodes at americasgreatestotaku.com. (Full episodes can only be viewed by American residents. Hulu sux). Or see the contenders at tokyopoptv.

So, when does Europe's Greatest Otaku start?
