Takashi Miike's Straw Shield at Cannes Film Festival
Yes! Takashi Miike came with a new movie: Straw Shield (or Shield of Straw), also known as Wara no Tate. This crime thriller will compete for the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival. So I have high expectations. And after seeing the trailer, my expectations became much more higher. The first thing that caught my eye was seeing the leading man of the movie: Tatsuya Fujiwara. He's also played in Death Note, Battle Royale and Parade. It's funny to see his overwhelming agressive angry face again. And of course high expectations, because Straw Shield has been directed by Takashi Miike. (I totally love his last movie 'Lesson of the Evil').
Anyway, Straw Shield is based on a novel by Kazuhiro Kiuchi. It's about Kiyomaru Kunihide (Tatsuya Fujiwara). This young man is suspected by killing the granddaughter of a powerful figure in the political world, Ninagawa (Tsutomu Yamazaki). Of course, Ninagawa is angry, so he placed a whole page ad in big Japanese newspapers, with the message: "Please kill this man Kunihide Kiyomaru and I will pay you 1,000,000,000 yen as a reward." Kunihide finds out about it. Fearing for his own life, he turns himself in to Fukuoka Prefectural Police. But now the police have to escort him to another city, Tokyo. Of course, the trip isn't very pleasant. Many people want to kill Kunihide (for the money).... oehhh, will he survive?
The trailer looks sooooo coool, so I really can't wait to see it. Straw Shield will be released this week in Japan on April 26, 2013. Scroll down to watch the trailer.
