First American K-pop movie?
Last Monday we've posted about an American dorama remake of Boys over Flowers. OMG.... Whyyyyy. What's next? An American K-pop movie! What the... Who the... Say what?
OK, this is not a remake or whatever. Nope, the movie 'Heart K-POP' will be completely produced by foreigners. 'The story is about a young troubled American model who has to overcome obstacles to achieve her dream of dancing with Mr.Mr.' Mr.Mr. is a Korean boy band. Hmmmkay, sounds corny. I know that K-Pop is becoming more and more popular in the US (and Europe), but are we waiting for a typical teen movie, about a girl who wants to be part of a (oh how coincidentally) K-pop band. We can all guess how it ends. She will live happily ever after becoming part of the band.
So why this movie? The director 'wants more K-pop stars to participate in collaborations with U.S. film makers, saying it will make it easier for K-pop stars to win recognition among U.S. consumers. Such joint projects will also offer a “new avenue” than the traditional method of production and distribution and the ability to expand creative ideas, he added.' But we have already seen MBLAQ's Lee Joon (and Rain and Lee Byung Hun, well he's not really K-pop, but still one of the best K-stars in American moviescene) in a U.S. movie production. So the best K-stars will already be recognized among U.S. consumers (and Europeans). And what about the k-doramas starring K-pop stars... So, do we need to see a typical-i-know-how-it-ends-movie?
Hmmm, what do you think. Are you excited to see Heart K-POP?
