Calling all 80's Kids

My eyes fell on this fabulous clip of Youtuber Shameless Maya. She made a dance off as the character Shana Elmsford of Jem and the Holograms!
Who watched Jem too? I personally loved this cartoon and also The New Archies and Thundercats.. Ok, check out the clip:


In this video Shameless Maya is showing some fierce moves from the eighties. I have to say, the guy is doing a pretty good job too. It kinda makes me wanna watch Madonna clips afterwards ha! How about you?

Well I got more interesting news. Actually I just found out while browsing, that a Jem and the Holograms movie is coming! A real live action!
OMG! Wait, what??! How! Where? And most of all, WHO???!??

After some research by yours truly, found out there is a serious filmproject going on. Directed by John M. Chu (G.I. Joe 2, yes that crappy movie with the hot Lee Byung Hun!!). But without Christy Marx on board, the writer of Jem. Now, that's a pity. What do you think about this? Bad move?

Historical drama big winner Grand Bell Awards

Today the 49th edition of the Grand Bell Awards (it's kind of the Korean version of the Oscars) has been held in Seoul. And the big winner is......

Well, this movie won 15 (!) awards out of  23! It's a historical drama... no, no, not Faith (that's a dorama not movie btw). And one of the best Korean actors has the main role in it. He played in Iris and A Bittersweet Life. He's the shining star in a Missha commercial. And he even has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Yup, it's Lee Byung Hun.

Ok, enough chitchat. The big winner is...... Masquerade!

This historical drama retells Mark Twain's "The Prince & The Pauper" set in Joseon era South Korea.

Lee Byung Hun won the Popularity Award and best actor award (that one for the first time in his life). Enough about LBH. The movie won awards for the best film, the best director, the best supporting actor, the best screenplay, the best costume design, the best art design, the best music, the best sound effects, the best lighting, the best editing, the best production, the best cinematography and the best visual effects.

I think I've said it before: I'm not a big fan of historical dramas, but hmmm, if this movie received so many awards, then I really should see Masquerade. I don't know when we can see this movie in the Netherlands. But I know that it will be shown during the London Korean Film Festival 2012. The LKFF will be held from November 1 - November 16. And guess who will be attending the screening: the one and only Lee Byung Hun! He will also take part in a Q&A session after the movie.

Historical drama favorite: Faith

OK, I really don't like historical doramas, but I HAD to see Faith. I just saw the first episode and....I love it!

This really isn't a typical boring dorama. Faith starts with an animation and
it goes waaay back in time. A Kingdom has been attacked and the princess gets hurt. She's dying and nobody can help her! Now a bodyguard of the king, Choi Yeong (Lee Min Ho!!), has to find someone who can save the princess's life. So through some kind of gateway to heaven he has to find "God's doctor". But actually this gateway brings him to the future, or well 2012. There he meets the possible God doctor...or well, he thinks she is. But she's not. Eun-Soo is just a 21st-century plastic surgeon. So he kidnaps her to the past, so that she can save the princess. And now I have to see the second episode.

Besides the beautiful animation, Faith also has a lot of hilarious moments. I laughed out soooo loud, when Choi Yeong travelled to the future. Of course, because he's from the past, he's never seen a car, camera or a TV before. So the look on his face and how he reacts on these normal things.... so funny! But imagine seeing a man from the past right now on the streets. Wearing a historical outfit and a huge sword. How would you react? I think you would have the same look on your face like Choi Yeong haha. You would think he's nuts.

So, Faith is funny, has animated moments and there's some action. Love it. Anyway, I'm done talking. I need to see the next episode now! Yayy!

Faith to see historical drama Faith

A new historical k-drama is coming: Faith. I'm still not a big fan of historical dramas but this one has an interesting cast: Lee Min Ho and uhm.... do I need to mention more names? (^_^)

Faith is about a stubborn, yet innocent bodyguard to the king. Then he meets and confronts a 21st century plastic surgeon who's kidnapped and brought 700 years in the past, to the Koryo Dynasty. And, how predictable: they fall in love with each other. Hmm, maybe I just have to give it a shot and watch the first episode. Maybe Faith will change my dislike for this genre....(ulggg I don't like Lee Min Ho's hair...)  

The first episode will air on August 13. If you can't wait that long, and you're really in the mood to watch historical dramas, then you should check out Time Slip Dr. Jin.

Anyway, I've got some other important news to tell you: today it's Lee Min Ho's birthday!!!!

Make music with floppy disks!

Who would have thought you can make music with floppy disks! But wait, do you still remember floppy disks? If not, go wikipedia it! ^_^

I still have some disks laying useless in dust, my PC now doesn't even have a disk drive! Nowadays you can't think of having a disk with only 320 kb of saving space on it!

Some guys manipulated their floppy disks and transformed them into a musical beatmachine. Star Wars' Imperial March, Haddaway's What is love? are among the creative highlights.

Nintendo love tester is back!

I still remember the first time when I played with a Nintendo. It was a Game and Watch handheld, a multifunctional product, because I also used the handheld as a TV, couch or bed for my Sylvanian family-dolls (sorry bro). So I grew up with the idea that Nintendo is the godfather of only making (video-)games and consoles.

But a long looooong time ago Nintendo also produced a lot of other products. In the late sixties they've created this special one: The love tester. And now I found out that a remake has been developed.

Of course this is just a funny, silly, rather useless gadget. Ah well, just as useless as a lot of other gadgets nowadays. How does it work? Well, first of all, the technology is pretty similar to which is used in lie-detectors. Both partners have to hold a knob and then hold hands (or make other physical contact). And then the meter indicates the strength of love for each other.

Meet my Sylvanian Mouse family! (..and granny mole)

More than 20 years ago my parents spoiled me by giving me a lot of these cute little Sylvanian animals, also known as Calico Critters! Luckily these animals are still not exctincted from our world! There are a lot of websites where you can actually buy Sylvanian stuff, such as the Dutch website www.desnuffelshop.eu


Yep, they still have many fans. Fans are even producing real actionmovies nowadays, starring a Sylvanian hero (or villain).

Story about the real ninja: Ninja Attack!

Naruto, Afro Samurai, Shuriken School... Nice and funny to watch and read, but how much do we really know about Ninjas? Yes, i am also too lazy to read history books about it, but just now I've read in Asahi that publisher Kodansha International Ltd has released the nicely illustrated book Ninja Attack! True Tales of Assassins, Samurai, and Outlaws. This book gives the reader information about the history, culture and real life stories of ninjas, as well as fighting techniques, costumes, weapons and houses. It is a 192-page book (!), but with the writing-style and the nice full-color illustrations, I am sure that a lazy Jumi, will enjoy reading this special history book (without falling asleep).

The book will be available in the US and Europe this fall.
